Knee Technique For Arthritis
This is Dr. David, physical therapist from El Paso Manual Physical Therapy.
I’ve got my friend here.
We’re going to look at her knee because there’s a very little known amount of rotation that happens inside the knee.
Everybody knows that the knee bends and straightens like this.
And that’s the majority of the motion you have inside the knee, but there are small amounts of rotation that if that isn’t there it can be causing some stiffness in your knee.
You know that stiffness that you get when you wake up in the morning and you take your first few steps.
Or if you’ve been sitting for a while and you get up and you need to take a few moments to let it loosen up.
Well, clearing up this amount of rotation can allow that knee to not be so stiff when you take those first few steps in the morning or when you go to stand up after you’ve been sitting for a while.
So here’s how we check it and then I’ll show you guys one of the techniques that we do to treat it.
We’ll check both sides to compare.
We’ll be holding the knee just like so.
And I’ll feel the knee joint where the shin bone connects to the thigh bone right here.
And then we just do a little twist this way, a little twist this way.
And it doesn’t hurt at all.
Just feels like pressure at the knee and at the ankle right here.
If we find a limitation then we can wiggle it in that direction or in that direction.
We also have a quicker way to get this done.
It’s a knee manipulation.
So what we’ll do is I’ll support the knee here and all you’ve got to do is relax here.
And we just do a little quick thrust just like that.
And then if she would have a limitation we’ll find that it tremendously improves the amount of rotation in the knee and will allow the knee to bend and straighten a lot easier if there’s a problem.
Luckily, Vanessa here is feeling fantastic and she doesn’t have any issues.
But if you’re dealing with some knee problem like that, this could be something that really helps push you over the edge to make sure that you’re moving better, walking better, and not having any problems with those first few steps after you wake up in the morning or if you’ve been sitting for a long time and you get that stiffness in your knee.
Guys, if you have any comments or questions please direct message us or you can comment in the comments below.
We encourage you to tag somebody that you know has been dealing with that kind of stiffness in their knee because they might need to see something like this.
We’re always open to answering any of your questions. Bring them on.
Thanks. Have a great day.
