Injection options for knee pain relief from Chondromalacia patella are many of these days and getting an injection can assist you in getting some much needed pain relief so that you can sleep at night because you heal at night and so that you can begin to do the right exercises without flaring yourself up.

Because exercise is truly what takes care of the root problem that sets up Chondromalacia patella. Now it is possible to heal contemplation patella, get back to doing everything you love to do without surgery and without having to rely on pain medications or injections. But getting injections can be beneficial for you during the rehabilitation process.

So you can be a little more comfortable and get through exercise without having to stop so much. So let me tell you the top five injection options that are out there for you. If you have Chondromalacia patella, that’s pain in the back of the kneecap right here on the end of the knee.

Number one is going to be a corticosteroid injection, otherwise known as a cortisone injection. These are the most common injections that doctors will offer their patients for knee pain relief, especially Chondromalacia patella, so they’ll stick a needle in between the bones right there and inject the cortisone and that’s supposed to give you some pain relief as well as help with inflammation because it’s an anti-inflammatory drug.

Now there are side effects to cortisone injections. The main ones are that you can have more than three per year because it does damage collagen tissues, like ligaments and tendons and even can break down bone. And technically it makes cartilage worse in the long run. But you might get an injection in the short term just to get some pain relief to get to those exercises and then get back to healing your cartilage.

Another danger is if you’re a diabetic, it could spike your blood sugar. So you got to watch out with that the cost of a cortisone injection is about 100 to $200 per injection. And insurances very often cover cortisone injections relief can last anywhere from a month to two or even up to three or four months, and in some cases, it has no effect immediately after the injection is delivered.

The second type of injection that’s offered for Chondromalacia, patella is a highly erotic acid injection. These are often called gel injections for the knee joint. And they’re most commonly given to patients that have knee osteoarthritis between the thigh bone and the shin bone. But they are starting to do it from time to time for Chondromalacia patella.

The idea with this is your knee joint, they call it a capsule as a capsule that holds in the knee fluid the joint fluid is called synovial fluid. This the fluid inside the joint can increase or decrease depending on certain circumstances. And the thought process behind injecting hyaluronic acid is that you’re increasing the amount of fluid and also increasing the health of the fluid inside the knee joint because that fluid is what nourishes the cartilage on the inside of the joint.

Cartilage usually doesn’t have the best blood supply, but it does get nutrition from the fluid, the synovial fluid inside the knee joint. So getting an injection like this a highly ironic acid injection could be beneficial in reducing your pain and kickstarting the healing process inside your knee joint. But be careful to assume that it’s going to cure your contribution patella.

There are other factors that I’ll talk more about before this video is over so that you can have a full understanding of what you need to do to get rid of your contribution with tele problem highly ironic acid injections are typically done in a series. So they’ll do several and there isn’t a clear cut protocol to do this.

Some doctors are doing two or three and other doctors are doing six or more. Each injection can be costly that can bring you 500 to over $1,500 per injection. So you got to think about that. And also it’s not covered by insurance. It’s not a completely proven treatment method just yet. Some of the research studies out there are showing that people are getting anywhere from six to nine months of pain relief. But keep in mind that I think that that’s still short term.

There are other factors that need to be addressed to get the long term almost cure like effect from contemplation patella, number three is PRP injections which is short for platelet rich plasma. This type of injection is really interesting to me because what doctors will do is they’ll take some of your blood out and put it in a centrifuge.

One of those things that spins around really fast, and it separates the different particles that are inside a blood. One of those being plasma. The plasma is in reinjected into your knee joints, in hopes that it promotes healing and decreases inflammation.

This has been shown helpful in some people, so it’s beginning to get some momentum as a treatment option for cartilage injuries like Chondromalacia patella, this is rarely covered by insurance and it’s going to run you anywhere from 1000 to $2,000 per injection, doctors will offer often recommend doing several treatments.

So you might do two or three or more depending on what you need and what your doctor recommends. And people are reporting six months or more of pain relief after getting a PRP injection coming in and number four is prolotherapy injections. Now, these aren’t as commonly done. It’s another form of regenerative medicine, which is kind of like what PRP is. And I’m going to talk about stem cells here next.

That’s another form of regenerative medicine. Prolotherapy injections are kind of the opposite of what you would think because most of the treatments so far are geared towards reducing inflammation will actually prolotherapy is trying to increase the inflammation response. And there’s some interesting thoughts behind this that I kind of like, the idea is that the first stage in healing of any tissue in the body, it’s inflammation.

So it wouldn’t make sense to take away inflammation to use an anti-inflammatory medication. If you’re truly going to promote healing in the back of the kneecap right there where the cartilage is, what prolotherapy is supposed to do is kickstart the inflammation process so that then you can begin to heal properly.

Now, there’s studies out there showing that it’s promising for it’s things like condom relation patella, also like osteoarthritis, and other cartilage type injuries, but it just hasn’t been proven. There isn’t enough research yet. So there isn’t any insurance coverage for this type of treatment. You’re looking at paying out of pocket anywhere from three to $600.

Now this is cheaper than PRP injections, and definitely cheaper than stem cell injections because what they’re injecting in you when they’re doing prolotherapy is a sugar dextrose is the most common one. Glycerin is another one, glucosamine and sucrose have been used as well. And now they’re looking at doing things like lidocaine and combinations of these in together with a prolotherapy treatment.

I think this is especially good for somebody who’s got very flexible joints, because it should theoretically stiffen the joints by causing that inflammation response and then causing the healing response. But like all the other ones before the root problem does need to be addressed. Still, the injection just doesn’t address the root issues.

Number five is stem cell treatments. Now stem cells can be derived from many different places. mesenchymal cells are going to be the most common ones. Those are the ones that are taken out of your own body from different sources and then injected directly into the area that you’re looking to get getting treated. Like in this case, your kneecap.

Mesenchymal stem cells will be taken out of your bone marrow, or fats. So the doctor does has to harvest this from you and then centrifuge it or do whatever they do to process it and then put it back in your body. In the kneecap right behind the where the cartilage is where the Chondromalacia patella problems at this process does take specialization and some expertise.

So it’s going to be expensive, definitely not covered by insurance. Right now, you’re looking at anywhere from 4000 to $6,000 per treatment. And it’s not really clear as to how long of an effect people have from this. And I can tell you from experience with my patients that have had stem cell treatments here in the clinic, it’s about a 5050 split.

About half the patients that I’ve seen that have reported, the ones that have had stem cell injections have reported they do have a benefit from the stem cell injections. And then the other half has said that it didn’t really make a big difference for them. I haven’t heard anyone say that it made them worse, I have only heard them say that it made them better, or it left them about the same.

The ones that were left about the same though were of course frustrated, they just spent 1000s of dollars to feel about the same. As I’ve been saying throughout this whole video, the root problem is not being addressed by any of these injections. So have that clear outlook when going to the doctor’s office for an injection, I can’t repeat it enough to you.

Because sometimes doctors don’t communicate very effectively, you know that they’ve rushed or seeing lots of patients or trying to help as many people as they possibly can. And sometimes they also just don’t have a clear understanding of how condemnation patella works and what set it off what the root problem was.

So let me take a moment to briefly explain it to you. When your kneecap is being pressed against your thigh bone right here, the cartilage back there gets irritated and if it’s over compressed, like if you have a muscle imbalance. For instance, in this case, your quad muscles are going to be way stronger than the other muscles, the quad muscles on the front of the thigh.

They will push that kneecap down against the thigh bone and rub the cartilage in appropriately. Getting stronger glute muscles tends to fix this problem. It’s a little more complicated than just strengthen your glute muscles. But that’s an excellent place to start and will probably help seven or eight out of 10 people suffering from Chondromalacia patella.

I got videos showing you exercises for your glutes to help out with knee problems like Kandra malaise patella, link down in the description below. So if you’re looking to do the right exercises Is go check those out as well as a 28 Day Knee Health And Wellness Boosts Program that is much more comprehensive on treating the root muscle imbalance that causes conundrum relationship patella.

You can learn more about that down in the description below. If your pain is so high that you can’t sleep at night, you’re not moving around comfortably. You can’t even sit longer than 30 minutes or an hour without your knees starting to throb and ache because of your Chondromalacia patella problem, then getting an injection might be a good idea, because the exercises that you’ll need to do to start fixing your glute problem are probably going to irritate your kneecap problem.

So getting the inflammation levels down is super helpful. You’ve got to figure out what works best for your situation. You might try some over the counter pain medications first or prescription strength pain medications from your doctor of course first before going to an injection.

But just keep that in mind that if you cannot control the pain, get a little bit of help, then you can get into the exercises more aggressively to fix the long-term problem.
